VentureBeat reports that Rokoko’s Smartsuit Pro “is a sensor-based motion capture studio in one wireless body suit … is mobile, accessible, and cost-effective compared to traditional motion capture systems, which typically cost more than $100,000.” Assets in The Motion Library are available for as little as $1 and a $10 monthly subscription. Unity Technologies, which makes the Unity game engine, offers pre-made assets to game developers who are looking to avoid the hefty price of professional motion capture. Its SmartSuit Pro captures an actor’s movements, turning them into data that can be used to animate characters in games and movies. Plus subscriptions cost $25/month, up $5/month from the previous release Pro subscriptions cost $60/month, up $10/month from the previous release. Paid subscriptions add more advanced features. Since the previous release, Rokoko has removed the option to export data in BVH format from Starter accounts, which now only support FBX export. Starter accounts are free, but don’t include the integration plugins for streaming data to DCC software, or the option to import custom 3D characters, and don’t receive active product support. Integration plugins are available for Blender, Cinema 4D, Houdini, iClone, Maya, MotionBuilder, Unity and Unreal Engine. Rokoko Studio 2.4 is compatible with 64-bit Windows 10+ and macOS 11.0+.
